When I see you again, I will bring you a bouquet of every flower you’ve ever loved.

The bright white petunias you picked as a child, kept quiet in a glass on your mothers table. The deep orange poppies that swept through the hills, like waves of an endless sunset. The violets in your hair, dark and cloudy…

They would be so bright and sweet & beautiful, and they would last forever. I would keep them in a porcelain vase, in a room lit by beams of dusky light. I would be gentle with them and cherish their soft, fraying edges.

When the colors darken, and the petals start to fall; I’ll crush them into a deep, staining ink, and write my endless words of love for you.

I’ll write them on clean, white pieces of paper, mailed to your childhood home.

On walls and bridges, and dirty bathroom mirrors.

Valentine’s Day cards and Christmas gifts.

Underneath the lids of classroom desks, waiting to be found.
I’ll write them on shy little notes, passed to you on the last day of school one Summer.

On old gravestones & soft blue rain-clouds, stained with tears.
